In the Drakenstein Municipal area, 8 Top High Schools in the Paarl-Wellington area have combined their marketing rights and put their annual winter sport derbies into one competition to determine the official Drakenstein Derby Champion.

Four annual derbies attracting in excess of 10 000 spectators per derby will be held in the quarter-finals, after which the winners and losers will respectively go into a semi-final derby match for the Cup and the Bowl, culminating in the final.

The opportunity in this product is in the fact that the schools themselves own the product, which means that possible revenue or ‘winnings’ in this regard will be towards themselves and the new legal entity vested to manage their rights. This opportunity is optimised as early in the 3rd Quarter of each year, they can showcase their brand in all the winter sport competitions of these schools.

10 days of full-stadium crowds, and quality opportunities are ensured for schools doing exceptional work for sport, yet with very little means and weak and damaged facilities.

Bergrivier High School, Charleston Hill Secondary School, Klein Nederburg Secondary School, New Orleans Secondary School, Noorder Paarl Secondary School, Paulus Joubert Secondary School, Wellington High School and Weltevrede Secondary School are the schools who form part of this new initiative to manage and optimise what they have to offer for their own benefit. The smallest contribution can make a huge difference when you have very little means but a lot of eagerness.
